Class Offerings for Fall 2023

Creative Movement―Ages 3 - 5 yearsA class geared for preschoolers to explore creative movement through music, develop physical and social skills, channel energy, promote creativity, muscle development, self-control, building confidence and foster positive self-esteem. This 45 minute class includes an introduction to basic concepts of dance (space, time, energy), classroom etiquette and a nurturing introduction to ballet. 45 minute class/once a week

Ballet I ―Ages 7 - 10 yearsThis class will include all basic concepts and vocabulary learned in the previous level. Dancers will begin their study of ballet theory including 5 positions of the feet and arms, 8 points of the room, and 3 basic body directions. Class meets one hour once a week.

Ballet II―Ages 9 years and upThis class will include all basic concepts and vocabulary learned in the previous level. Dancers will continue to increase skill and vocabulary, including the uses of the head (epaulement), increased difficulty of steps and combinations at the barre and in the center, additional body directions, and pirouette preparation. Correct posture and turnout should be used throughout the class. Girls will begin preparation for pointe work (ankle strengthening, stretches, etc.). Class meets one hour once a week.

Ballet IV―Ages 11 years and upHigh Intermediate Class. This class will include concepts and vocabulary learned in previous levels. Students will further increase vocabulary, as well as performance ability and poise. Dancers will explore all 8 directions of the body in barre and center exercises with increased difficulty of combinations. Pre-requisite: at least 2-3 years of ballet training. Placement by audition/teacher recommendation. Class meets 1.5 hours twice a week.

Ballet V―Ages 12 and upAdvanced Class. This class will include concepts and vocabulary learned in previous levels. Students will explore more advanced movement and choreography. Pre-requisite: at least 2-3 years of ballet training. Placement by audition and/or teach recommendation. Class meets 1.5 hours twice a week.

Adult BalletThis is a beginner ballet class is for adults (and teens). Dancers will learn basic ballet terminology, body placement and alignment, movement dynamics, and basic barre work. Dancers will also develop strength, confidence and poise. No previous dance experience required. Class meets one hour once per week.

PointePointe class is for the ballet student seeking further development en pointe. Students will develop strength and control in ankles and metatarsals, developing the overall strength and poise required to dance en pointe. Students will also improve coordination at the barre, in center and across the floor movement. Class meets one hour one time per week. Teacher Recommendation Required.

Hip Hop―Ages 12 & upDancers will be challenged and engaged by this fast-paced hip-hop class. Dancers will work on musicality and movement dynamics. This class promises to be fun and energetic. Recommended for students 12 and up with previous experience recommended. Class meets one hour once a week.

Jazz I―Ages 6 - 9 yearsJazz I teaches the basics of jazz movement with contemporary and Broadway-style music. Students learn isolations, stretches, across the floor jazz walks, turns and leaps. Class meets one hour once a week.

Intermediate/Advanced Jazz―Ages 11 and upIntermediate/Advanced Jazz Technique will strengthen and expand the intermediate/advanced dancer's jazz vocabulary and physical technique. Students will be challenged technically and mentally. Students will learn new steps, new choreography, and sharpen skills. 1-2 years previous experience required and/or teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week.

BEG/INT Contemporary -- Ages 8-12BEG/INT Contemporary is a class for the beginner and intermediate dancer wanting to expand their knowledge and experience with contemporary technique. This class will include warm-up, center and across the floor technique and contemporary choreography. Ballet technique is a good foundation for this class. Ballet is not required as a PRE or CO-requisite, but it is strongly encouraged. Class meets one hour once a week.

INT/ADV Contemporary Repertory― Ages 13 and upINT/ADV Contemporary is a class for the intermediate and advanced dancer wanting to expand their knowledge and experience with contemporary and jazz technique. This class will include warm-up, center and across the floor technique and choreography. At least 1 year of contemporary or jazz technique required. Class meets one hour once a week.

Group Vocal Lessons―Ages 8-AdultIndividuals will learn the value of proper breathing, proper posture, and proper vocal placement. These classes will give the student a great foundation to build strong vocals and vocal performance. Class meets one hour once a week.

Music Theory - Beginner thru AdvancedIf you want to learn how to read and write music, this courses a must. Time will be spent learning the basics of music (scales, chords, key and time signatures, etc.) through composing and performing your own score. No matter your future plans in music, this course will more than help you on the may to excellence and competence in music. Great for instrumentalists and vocalists! There will be additional cost for the textbook.

Tap I―Ages 6 - 9 yearsTap I focuses on rhythm and making “melodies” with the feet. This class will introduce rhythmic steps and tap vocabulary. Class meets one hour once a week.

Tap II―Ages 7-12 yearsTap II is a beginner/intermediate class. Students will explore more extensive center and across the floor work along with challenging choreography. Prerequisite: Tap I. Class meets one hour once a week.

Tap III―Ages 11 and upTap III is an intermediate/advanced class. Students will explore more difficult steps, and execute challenging choreography. Prerequisite: Tap II and teacher recommendation. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week.

Adult TapThis is a beginner tap class for adults (and teens). Dancers will learn basic tap steps and combinations, rhythm, and movement dynamics. Dancers will also develop strength and confidence. Class meets one hour once per week.

ActingThis class is for those who have an interest in stage acting. Time is spent on characterization, the language of the stage, improvisation, and the discovery of emotion. Class meets one hour, once per week.

MimeThis class is a must for any serious actor. The class will cover the disciplines of Classical French Mime as taught by Marcel Marceau. Proper form and gestural communication is taught alongside illusion and traditional mime techniques. Students have loads of fun building the unseen world. Class meets one hour, once per week.

Audition Class―Ages 13 – AdultOur Audition Class will explore best practices for theatrical and musical auditions, best songs to use for specific roles and vocal ranges, learning and retaining choreography quickly, learning to build character from monologues, communication skills, resume building, and much more! Class meets one hour once per week.

Unlocking the Heart of the Artist: A Theology of the Arts in the KingdomTHIS COURSE IS A MUST FOR ANY ARTIST - AND IT'S ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!!!!! If you want to really live the life you know God created for you as an artist in His kingdom, then this course is for you. Unlocking the Heart of the Artist is an invitation to begin a journey of healing and wholeness that will yield deeper spirit-led creativity and personal fulfillment. Through learning practical ways to renew your mind, understand God's plan for your life and art, and engage the Holy Spirit in their creative process, you will learn how to collaborate with God not only in your chosen artistic field, but in life. There is a cost for the textbook.

We will be happy to assist on the first day of your classes. Our teachers will assess technique level and help you register for the correct classes. You can also email us at studio@poiemaac.com.

Online Registration is now open. You can fill out online and pay the registration fee. OR print out registration form and bring with you to assessments or first day of class. All payments will be made at the studio by Credit Card or personal check.
